Shiatsu Therapy
Gibson Massotherapy offers Shiatsu in Fairlawn, Ohio. Shiatsu (finger pressure), derived from Oriental medicine, is based upon acupuncture principles, but without using needles. The less accurate term, “acupressure” is often used to refer to this Asian bodywork method. Shiatsu may also be referred to as “shiatsu massage” or “shiatsu therapy”.
Shiatsu focuses upon a different energy system than Polarity Therapy, but the principle is very similar. The Shiatsu practitioner presses and massages points along acupuncture meridians (energy channels) to either tonify (increase energy flow) or sedate (slow down energy flow) with the goal of restoring healthy, balanced circulation of energy called “chi” (Chinese) or “ki” (Japanese). Kneading and stretching along the meridians are also employed. The client can remain fully clothed and a Shiatsu massage is typically a pleasurable and relaxing experience which can result in powerful therapeutic benefits.
Meridian based therapies have been used for several thousand years and are now becoming more mainstream as acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine continue to gain acceptance in the U.S. You no longer have to cross an ocean to enjoy this bodywork method. Call today to experience shiatsu in Fairlawn!
